Red face Tweak My Build

I've been experimenting for a while now... I have seen a lot of touch rangers killing me, my team in PvP battles and i also have seen barragers in action, so my thought is why not make a barrager/touch ranger?

skills:

Barrage {Elite}
Needling shot
Whirling defence
Throw dirt
Pindown
Vamperic gaze
Vamperic bite
Rez Signet
-----------------------------------------------------
Attributes:

Have your attributes in blood magic, expertise and marksmanship. Also apply runes to your armor.
-----------------------------------------------------
The idea of this build is get your opponent down with the 2 life stealing skills and spam needling shot to finish them off.

The reason i used vamperic gaze is it offers some range, you don't have to go point blank.

Pindown and throw dirt is used to keep your enemy from kiting, and whirling defence is always handy against a tank, but with pin down and throw dirt you won't have to worry much, only use it as a last resort.

The reason I put barrage in is for rapid energy gain, see the weapon section for more detail.
-----------------------------------------------------
Armor:
This build requires some energy, so stick with druids.

Weapons:
the best weapon for this is build is actually a long bow with a zealous mod, use barrage for rapid energy gain.

*this is my first time posting a build so please don't be so hard on me*

*if you have any tips on improving this build please say so*

Well... err yeah.
I assume this is for PvE... because its pathetic for PvP.

1.) I personally really REALLY dislike barrage, for the simple reason that there are so many better skills to use over barrage. For energy gain for example: Marksmans's Wager, or Melandru's Shot.

2.) Vampiric Bite is 15 mana (with expertise counted in... lets give you 14 EXP... so.. about 8 mana. Vampiric Gaze is 10.

Assuming your using druid's armor, you've got 32 mana. so two "combo"s and your drained. Not cool.

3.) Pindown will cost alot of mana, again going to drain you of energy quite quickly.

4.) Needling shot is cheep. However, 17 DPS (assuming about 12 marksmanship.) is pathetic.

5.) What does this build have over a primary necro? Nothing. Absolutely nothing... so yeah.

----------
I would:

- Drop the spells/Vamp Bite. They are way too energy consuming, and arn't as good as many other Ranger skills for damage.
- Drop pindown. Some may argue against me, but to me, 15 second recharge for a condition sucks, concidereing its off in a second.
- Drop Throwdirt. Again, same reason as pindown. Too long a recharge time, removed in a few seconds. Not enough bang for your buck.

---------

Personally, I think you wanting to use your necro secondary is great. However, its just not enough bang for your buck. The necromancer profession lacks "skills" that are affected by expertise, thus not making a good combination with the ranger primary.

One quite interesting build I have seen with the R/N using the necro secondary quite well is a virulence degen R/N.
However, honestly I don't think its a "good" build... and again, just isn't enough bang for it's buck.

I just don't see any situation in which using a necro secondary would actually benefit the Ranger primary (other than touch ranger of course...)

yeah :/.

Im not sure if this applies, but grenths balance + fertile season + symbiosis.

Also... I agree this build is lacking, either go touch or barrage, stradling the fence makes you ineffective at both at the same time...

ok thanks for the tip,

After reading the replies I think I will stick being a barrager. Can some one tell me what skills a barrager needs to have??

Simple Barrage Build:

Barrage
Interupt (Dist. Shot, Savage Shot, Concussion Shot, Disrupting Lunge)
Favorable Winds
Defensive Stance (Whirling Defenses or Dodge)
Comfort Animal or Throw Dirt
Charm Animal or Determined Shot
Troll Unguent
Rebirth

Just decide whether you want to bring your pet or whether you want to have more defense/offense. I would reccomend the latter of the two personally, although high BM with Disrupting Lunge could allow you to spam an interupt (while also doing a bit extra damage) without breaking your barrage spam.

This build is flexible and really all you need for a barrage build is barrage, interupt, defensive stance, troll and a rez. The rest is preference.

Don't bring 'Barrage' anywhere near PvP unless you're joking around with a B/P team in HA...

If you're planning to spam 'Needling Shot' over and over again, it won't be hard for another Ranger, if the is one, to pick up on that, and fire a 'Distracting Shot'... Which is pretty GG for the way you play that build?

If you want to beating touch-rangers is your concern, try a snare... Examples would be 'Crippling Shot', 'Pin Down', even the trap 'Snare' would work, however I don't advise bringing traps into PvP unless you have some form of cover like 'Lightning Reflexes' or 'Distortion'.

Thanks.
